    On a day of momentous occasions I want to take this opportunity to remind
 you of a very big momentous occasion coming up very quickly: The Mike Bates
 Memorial Pig Roast!  I need your RSVP's now!  Friday afternoon I must arrange
 for the timely demise of the main course, and therefore you should send me a
 reply before then.  Definitely more fun than a convention!



    Speaking of Momentous Occasions, I'm sure most you have heard that H. Ross
 Perot and Ken Olsen have both called it quits.  Both announcements come as a
 surprise to their respective organizations, and before any real hard news
 comes out about the decisions, I'd like to offer these top ten reasons:

 [10] The lame riot story making the rounds of the e-net fools Ken.  Sickened
      by the reaction to the layoffs, he quits.  H. Ross Perot gives up his
      run for president to focus on buying DEC.

 [9]  Miscommunication.  Ken and Perot met several times last over possible
      vice-president selection.  Hearing that a big announcement was in the
      works by the Perot camp, Ken resigns in preparation.

 [8]  Both giving up their personal goals to follow America's latest
      heartthrob: Tipper Gore!

 [7]  Both men dropping what they're doing in order to prepare for the Mike
      Bates Memorial Pig Roast!  It's only 10 days away!

 [6]  Schedule slips to the LCAlpha program delays implementation of the
      electronic town-meeting; Olsen the fall guy.

 [5]  Engineers at EDS and DEC ecstatic that the remote control implants work!

 [4]  Neither man invited to the Mike Bates Memorial Pig Roast; what's the
      point of all that hard work without caring friends?

 [3]  Ken despondent that Mike is jumping to IBM, and Perot disappointed that
      Mike's well known political savvy will not be available.

 [2]  What's the point of continuing?  It would just end up in the House of
      Representatives and be disruptive...
